HR Generalist

About This Role

This HR Generalist role is for an experienced, organised, and approachable HR professional to improve and manage people processes for a growing, independent veterinary practice. The role focuses on taking ownership of the practical side of HR, ensuring processes are followed, and helping to develop better systems as the company grows.

Responsibilities

• Review existing HR arrangements and identify areas for improvement
• Manage and maintain HR processes through BrightHR
• Prepare and issue employment contracts, offer letters, and other documentation, working alongside Eight Legal
• Ensure return-to-work meetings, staff one-to-ones, and appraisals are completed, recorded, and followed up
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and induction
• Maintain accurate employee records and monitor HR deadlines
• Help the directors implement consistent HR policies and procedures
• Develop straightforward processes and checklists that the team can maintain
• Train and mentor an existing team member to take on routine HR responsibilities
• Provide practical HR guidance to the directors

Requirements

• Experience as an HR Officer, HR Generalist, HR Manager, or independent HR consultant
• CIPD Level 5 or equivalent practical experience
• A sound understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice
• Experience implementing and improving HR processes
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• The ability to work independently and offer constructive advice
• Experience mentoring or training other staff members

Important Details

• Schedule: 12 to 20 hours per week, flexible
• Contract: initial 3–6 month project, with potential for ongoing work; self-employed HR consultant or part-time employed arrangement
• Work format: flexible hybrid working, with regular time at Perth premises and some remote work
