Duties
This position is located at the VA Roseburg Healthcare System (VHAROS) and is a full-service VA healthcare referral center which is comprised of 1137 employees, 93 inpatient beds and 15 SARRTP/RSAT beds. The patient turnover rate is 188%. EMS cleans over 654,000 gross square feet of space. The incumbent in this position functions as a Housekeeping Aid Work Leader and is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor of the Unit to which he/she is assigned. He/she will perform a full range of sanitation activities and lead the staff assigned to him. If assigned to a tour of duty that includes the weekend or swing shift, he/she will work and lead independently with general instruction provided beforehand by his/her Housekeeping Aid Supervisor. The incumbent of this position is assigned to one of the Sanitation Units of the Environmental Management Service (EMS). The incumbent must have a full knowledge and abilities required to satisfactorily fulfill the responsibility of a Housekeeping Aid Leader WL-3566.
The incumbent must possess a comprehensive knowledge of proper housekeeping methods and procedures in order to provide effective leadership in carrying out assignments and in properly training Housekeeping Aids in all phases of housekeeping. Incumbent must be knowledgeable of policies, guides, standards and requirements related to hospital housekeeping programs. Must be able to plan and lay out in a methodical and logical way.
The incumbent must display knowledge of safe working practices at all times. He/she must maintain current sanitation knowledge and answer questions of team members on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directions (technical orders). He/she must demonstrate proper work methods on the use of hand tools, ladder, scaffolding and electric or battery powered equipment applicable to tasks being performed to the team. He/she must be able to operate tools, housekeeping equipment and machines of varying difficulty. Incumbent is responsible for some maintenance of these equipment and machines and for reporting needed repair. Incumbent is able to use local computer software and equipment.
The incumbent takes the lead on projects and works within a team to set the pace of his assigned team members to get the job done. He/she must constantly adjust work schedules to handle emergencies that arise. The incumbent must be thoroughly familiar with power equipment such as floor machines, vacuums, auto scrubbers, battery powered trucks, and carpet shampoo machines. He/she must be able to perform the same type of work as a Housekeeping Aid WG-2, which includes a full range of sanitation cleaning in any assigned area.
Qualifications
Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of supervisory responsibilities, such as planning direction and management of a total program designed to provide a sanitary environment appropriate to a health care facility.
Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.
