History Teacher

About This Role

Teaching history to middle and high school students is the core of this job, providing support to the instructional process by supervising students, developing lesson plans, and delivering instruction within curriculum guidelines. This role collaborates with other staff and administrators to address classroom issues and communicates with parents about student progress.

Responsibilities

• Administer and develop subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, student achievements, develop methods for improvement, and reinforce classroom goals in the home environment
• Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
• Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources to improve the overall quality of student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan
• Counsel students on improving performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and a variety of personal issues
• Demonstrate and differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments to provide an effective program addressing individual student requirements
• Instruct students to improve their success in academics through a defined course of study
• Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
• Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment
• Participate in various meetings and professional development activities to convey and gather information required to perform functions
• Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g., grades, lesson plans following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements
• Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, zero tolerance offenses etc.) to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to state law and board policies
• Respond to emergencies to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution
• Respond to inquiries from various sources (e.g., other teachers, parents, administrators, students, central office staff, etc.) to resolve issues and provide information and direction
• Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students
