About the role
We are searching for a Histology Assistant - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide administrative and technical support the surgical pathology and histology operation.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required OR
- One year of post high school education in a college or technical program for laboratory science required
- 1 year experience in a laboratory setting required
- One year of post high school education in a college or technical program for laboratory science may be substituted for the one year of required experience in a laboratory setting
Responsibilities:
- Validates specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type and size and prioritizes workload according to handling protocols defined in section manuals within the established turnaround times
- Performs required quality control procedures according to the written guidelines in the section procedure manuals as documented on QC log sheets
- Performs daily maintenance and calibration procedures to ensure proper functioning of instruments
- Maintains files for special stain and immunohistochemistry request sheets and for AP study sheets and maintains filing systems for blocks and slides
- Performs mandated reading assignments and reviews and signs off on procedure manuals, communication logs, and memorandums in a timely manner
- Participates in proficiency testing programs to validate instruments and competency
