Duties
The position will serve as a heavy mobile equipment mechanic performing maintenance, repair, servicing and overhaul work on automobiles, trucks, tractors, heavy equipment, attachments and other vehicles and equipment. Makes repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, adjusting, overhauling or cleaning defective parts or components. Requires the completion of safety and operation inspections for vehicles and equipment. The position also requires preparation of monthly reports, requisitions for supplies and parts, job reports and vehicle labor and parts forms. Reports may be prepared using various commercially available software programs. This is a uniformed position which requires proper wear of the National Park Service uniform, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is active, requiring walking, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, and working in cramped positions. Occasionally strenuous physical effort is exerted in climbing and carrying hand tools and in the repair of powered equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in areas that are frequently dusty, dirty, and greasy and is exposed to solvents, noxious gases and fumes that could result in burns, infections, and cuts. Works indoors and outdoors and must be capable of working satisfactorily in adverse conditions of rain, snow, and in high insect density.

In addition to meeting the condition of employment specified below, applicants MUST have experience related to the major duties of this position. Your experience and training must have provided you with the following job element skills.
- Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, WG-5803-10 without more than normal supervision (screen-out).
- Knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operations and working relationships of a variety of heavy duty systems, assemblies, and parts.
- Demonstrated competency in the application of the trade tools and processes required for repair and maintenance of heavy mobile equipment.
- Independently conduct diagnostic procedures for heavy mobile vehicles and equipment while using various diagnostic tools of the trade.
- Repair and maintain winter operations and engineering equipment, including heavy trucks with snow plows and material spreaders, heavy wheeled loaders, graders, road tractors with equipment trailers, and tracked equipment.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT (MANDATORY): The duties of this position involve operation of vehicles and equipment with a gross vehicle combination weight up to 80,000 pounds. A valid State Driver's License is required. A valid State Class A Commercial Driver's License will be required within 18 months of employment. If selected, you will be required to provide your state DMV record and a copy of your CDL.
You must include dates of employment (month and year) and hours worked per week to receive credit for your work experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. You will not receive credit for experience that does not indicate the exact hours worked per week or is listed as "varies." Part-time hours are prorated.

You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
