About This Role
This senior HVAC technician role involves owning and maintaining a 16-unit HVAC and environmental system at a licensed cannabis production facility in Albuquerque, controlled by Agrowtek. The core responsibility is to ensure the system runs optimally for consistent production across all rooms and cycles. The engagement also includes servicing HVAC systems at other commercial properties within the owner's portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot all 16 HVAC units and the related dehumidification, ventilation and CO2 equipment
- Manage the Agrowtek control platform: setpoints, sensors, schedules, alarms, day/night transitions and room-by-room climate recipes
- Hold temperature, humidity and VPD within the targets set by the cultivation team, and keep conditions consistent across all rooms
- Monitor system data and alarms, spot drift early, and fix root causes rather than symptoms
- Calibrate and replace sensors and probes on a set schedule
- Build and run a written preventive maintenance program: filters, coils, condensate lines, belts, drives, refrigerant charge, electrical connections
- Keep a service log for every unit: work done, readings, parts used, and recommendations
- Track parts and consumables, and keep critical spares on hand to prevent downtime
- Respond to alarms and failures quickly to protect crops; be reachable for emergencies by phone
- Diagnose and repair compressors, fans, controls, refrigerant circuits and electrical faults
- Recommend repairs, upgrades and replacements, with costs and the reason each is needed
- Bring in and direct electricians, plumbers, controls specialists and others when a job needs them
- Scope the work, get quotes for approval, supervise on site, and sign off on the finished job
- Service HVAC systems at the owner's other commercial sites (for example, storage, event and office buildings)
- Apply the same maintenance and logging standard there
- Send a short written report each week: system status, issues found, work done, and what is coming
- Follow facility security, sanitation and access rules, and keep records ready for state inspection
Requirements
- At least 10 years of hands-on commercial HVAC experience
- Working knowledge of Agrowtek controls, or proven skill with comparable building or cultivation control systems and the ability to learn Agrowtek quickly
- EPA Section 608 certification (Universal preferred)
- New Mexico mechanical license or journeyman certification appropriate to the work, or the ability to work under a licensed contractor
- Strong skills in refrigeration, airflow, psychrometrics and humidity control
