Hearing Officer: Keen Mountain Correctional Center

About This Role

This role involves presiding over all disciplinary hearings for inmates at Keen Mountain Correctional Center. The Hearing Officer is responsible for processing related forms, monitoring penalty offers, and administering disciplinary procedures to promote positive inmate behavior and ensure proper inmate management. The position requires maintaining compliance with Department policy and institutional operating procedures.

Responsibilities

• Preside over all hearings for inmate disciplinary reports
• Receive and process all forms related to disciplinary actions
• Monitor the penalty offer process
• Oversee, implement, and administer all procedures related to disciplinary hearings and inmate disciplinary actions
• Promote positive inmate behavior by contributing consequences to negative behavior
• Provide staff with an avenue for proper inmate management
• Maintain compliance with Department policy and Division and Institutional operating procedures

Requirements

• Considerable knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) policies and procedures
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook
• Demonstrated ability to obtain and evaluate information and/or evidence to conduct a fair and impartial hearing
• Ability to make a sound and impartial finding of guilt or innocence and to explain charges, rules, and regulations
• Ability to synthesize data and conduct hearings in a fair and impartial manner and to document results of the disciplinary hearings
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing
• Ability to read, interpret and apply policies and guidelines
• Ability to train staff and inmates in the application of disciplinary process

Nice to have:

• Ability to speak Spanish
• Considerable knowledge of VADOC Inmate Discipline Procedure
