About the role

Duties
As a Health Scientist (Informatics) you will:

  • Provide expert scientific advice, consultation and leadership in designing, coordinating and maintaining public health informatics project goals, objectives and priorities.
  • Manage projects involved with public health informatics and serves as a subject matter expert in the design and implementation of IT systems integrating epidemiologic and other information from a scientific perspective.
  • Design, oversee, implement, and conduct scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve health system related problems.
  • Participate with scientists and program consultants in various aspects of the study or survey design process, and other study support duties including analyzing and reporting of data and data dissemination to audiences.
  • Collaborate and provide expert scientific advice to a variety of nation-wide and international organizations to synthesize, and implement informatics policies and directions for future development.

Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
Applicant must have at least a bachelor's degree with major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position from an accredited college or university.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must also have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include developing and deploying information technology systems and documenting management and archival repository systems related to public health.

Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

Conditions of Employment:

  1. Security and Background Requirements: If not previously completed, a background security investigation will be required for all appointees. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements may be grounds for appropriate personnel action. In addition, if hired, a background security reinvestigation or supplemental investigation may be required at a later time.   2.   3. Direct Deposit: All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
