Health Information Technician

About This Role

This Health Information Technician position at the Madden Mental Health Center in Hines, Illinois, involves preparing and coding clinical records, including medical and psychiatric diagnoses. The role requires interpreting and evaluating complex clinical records, conducting chart audits, and serving on facility-wide committees. It also includes coordinating the release of information activities and representing the facility in court-ordered hearings on health information records.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and code all clinical records, including medical and psychiatric diagnoses, as an accredited health information management technician
• Interpret and evaluate technical and complex clinical records
• Conduct clinical chart audits
• Serve on various facility-wide oversight committees concerning Health Information
• Review petitions, certificates, and related documents pertaining to civil commitment
• Utilize a personal computer, software, hardware, and agency mainframe applications to produce special reports, charts, forms, and graphs for summaries and displays of health information records
• Coordinate release of information activities, including review of court orders and subpoenas, approval of authorizations from outside agencies, retrieval of records, and identification of requested documents
• Maintain a list of charts that have not been coded and entered into the system
• Attend and actively participate in all mandatory training
• Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Requirements

• Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two years of college
• One year of experience in health information records procedures
• Accreditation as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
• Ability to utilize personal computers, hardware, and software applications to produce special reports, charts, forms, and graphs for summaries and displays of health information records
• Ability to pass the IDHS background check
• Ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law
