Health Information Technician

About This Role

The Health Information Technician reviews, analyzes, abstracts, and releases information in medical records, adhering to pre-established criteria and complex regulatory standards. This role requires a high level of computer literacy and is suited for individuals who are detail-oriented and committed to maintaining the integrity of health information.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze medical records for accuracy and completeness
• Abstract and release information according to established policies and regulatory standards
• Process requests for health information
• Compile and utilize statistics related to health information
• Perform clerical tasks as needed
• Interact positively and professionally with Medical and Clinical Services staff
• Maintain confidentiality of patient, staff, and visitor information
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures related to job functions

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent; medical secretarial or health information education preferred
• One to two years of experience in a Medical Record Department
• Accredited Record Technician certification preferred
• Knowledge of office equipment, including FAX, copy machines, and multi-line phones
• Formal or working knowledge of PC applications, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
