Health Information Specialist

About This Role

This patient-facing role involves providing call support, processing Release of Information (ROI) requests, faxing, and burning images to CDs. The specialist will serve as the front desk point of contact for patients and play a critical part in ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant handling of medical record requests. Responsibilities

• Serve as the front desk point of contact for patient walk-ins requesting medical records or releases
• Provide phone support to patients, providers, and authorized requestors
• Process Release of Information (ROI) requests accurately and timely
• Fax, scan, and manage incoming and outgoing medical record requests
• Burn medical images to CDs and share images electronically as required
• Support client relationship management through professional communication
• Assist with reporting and administrative duties such as data entry and email
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, privacy regulations, and facility policies

Requirements

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Comfortable working in a patient-facing, front desk environment
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage confidential information
• Reliable, punctual, and professional
• Ability to multitask and work independently
• High School Diploma or GED required (Must be from an Accredited Institute recognized by the State Dept. of Education)
• Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required
• Basic computer proficiency
• Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machines, printers, and other general office equipment on a regular basis
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in the English language
• Detail and quality oriented as it relates to accurate and compliant information for medical records
• Strong data entry skills
• Must be able to work with minimum supervision responding to changing priorities and role needs
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
• Able to respond to requests in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to stay organized while working quickly
• Strong attention to detail is also required
• Passing annual Introductory HIPAA examination (Testing to be given annually in accordance with employee review)
• Required to take and pass a 90-day ROI Certification course with a score of 85% or higher
• Post-offer health screenings and proof and/or completion of various vaccinations such as the flu shot, Tdap, COVID-19, etc., may be required by clients to ensure the safety of patients and staff
