Health Information Management Technician

About This Role

The Health Information Management Technician provides clerical support and scanning duties within the HIM Department. This role involves data compilation, quantitative analysis, verification of records, and maintenance of files and correspondence. The technician also analyzes records for chart completion deficiencies, ensuring they are assigned to appropriate medical staff and tracked, and reviews documentation to update or clear deficiencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide clerical support and scanning duties in data compilation, quantitative analysis, verification of records, maintenance of files, and correspondence
• Analyze assembled records for chart completion deficiencies in accordance with regulatory requirements and medical staff rules and regulations
• Ensure deficiencies are assigned to the appropriate medical staff member and data is entered for tracking and monitoring purposes
• Review documentation and update or clear deficiencies as appropriate
• Answer telephone calls and assist visitors (including physicians, patients, and their family members) while maintaining confidentiality
• Retrieve, log, and print medical records as requested by physician offices, patients, other hospitals, and other entities
• Notify Director of any outstanding records, issues with equipment, processes, or other job concerns
• Take on-call rotation for retrieval of records, fax transfer records, and pulling power of attorney papers
• Assist with other HIM daily functions
• Work closely with physicians and ensure they are set up to dictate into the system
• Train physicians/APRNs to dictate and e-sign dictation and orders
• Ensure completion of records for joint commission standards

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
