Health Information Management Technician

About This Role

Working as a Health Information Management Technician, you will provide clerical support and scanning duties within the Health Information Management (HIM) Department. This role involves data compilation, quantitative analysis, record verification, and file maintenance, reporting to the Director of Health Information Management.

Responsibilities

• Provide clerical support and scanning duties in data compilation, quantitative analysis, verification of records, maintenance of files, and correspondence in the HIM Department
• Analyze assembled records for chart completion deficiencies, in accordance with regulatory requirements and medical staff rules and regulations
• Ensure any deficiencies are assigned to the appropriate medical staff member, and data is entered for tracking and monitoring purposes
• Review documentation and update or clear deficiencies as appropriate
• Answer telephone calls and assist visitors (including physicians, patients, and their family members), while maintaining confidentiality
• Retrieve, log, and print medical records as requested by physician offices, patients, other hospitals, and other entities as needed
• Notify Director of any outstanding records, issues with equipment, processes, or other job concerns
• Take on-call rotation for retrieval of records, fax transfer records, pulling power of attorney papers, etc.
• Assist with other HIM daily functions
• Work closely with physicians and ensure they are set up to dictate into the system
• Train physicians/APRNs to dictate and e-sign dictation and orders
• Ensure completion of records for joint commission standards
• Work the hold queue for the dictation system
• Make physicians aware of late dictations, updates, and cut-off dictation
• Perform data entry for still births
• Review and comply with LifePoint Code of Conduct and all relevant Company and Division policies and procedures

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Critical thinking skills
• Decisive judgment
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
