About This Role
This Health Information Management Technician role at Central New York Psychiatric Center (CNYPC) involves a range of tasks related to health records, from collection and review to data entry and disposal. The position focuses on ensuring the accuracy and compliance of clinical documentation and providing technical support to staff on health information management systems.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the accuracy of clinical progress notes and treatment records
- Conduct record review audits of diagnostic and therapeutic medical records for completeness to ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and legal requirements
- Provide technical assistance and support to facility and clinical staff on health information management requirements and the use of the Electronic Health Record
- Implement corrective actions as determined by internal and external audit findings
- May supervise lower-level clerical and support staff
- Process release of information requests and subpoenas from various courts, attorneys, advocacy groups, and patients while ensuring compliance with State and Federal HIPAA guidelines
- Travel to other Correction-based facilities
Requirements
- Current certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

- Schedule: Day shift, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday pass days

Central New York Psychiatric Center (CNYPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) secure forensic facility, provides a full range of care and treatment to individuals incarcerated in the state and county correctional systems at their secure forensic inpatient hospital in Marcy, NY and at a network of corrections based mental health units for incarcerated individuals in the custody of the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) in Cayuga, Clinton, Chemung, Dutchess, Erie, Oneida, Orleans, Seneca, Westchester, and Wyoming counties. All of CNYPC’s locations are within close proximity to major urban centers - New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Montreal, and Toronto and offer a wide variety of recreational activities for the outdoor enthusiast.
