This Health Education Consultant position supports the dissemination of specialized information and resources, as well as advocacy for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other mental health diagnoses in New Mexico. The successful candidate will also implement training and support for certified family peer support workers across the state, ensuring community-based advocacy and support are available. The role has a preference for a family member of an individual with ASD and requires occasional travel.
The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The Autism Programs at the CDD has long supported families to respond to the needs of other family members based upon their lived experiences with a child with ASD. They have now begun to work to meet the needs of families experiencing other behavioral health challenges. As part of a University Center of Excellence, they subscribe to an individual and family-centered approach in all their work.
