Head of People

About This Role

This newly created Head of People role is a 5-month fixed-term interim contract reporting directly to the founders. You will set up and run the people function, with a strong focus on talent acquisition for technology and engineering hires, alongside core HR fundamentals. This operational role suits a tech-savvy individual comfortable with a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end talent acquisition, with a strong focus on technology and engineering hires
• Build people processes and infrastructure from the ground up: onboarding, performance, policies
• Manage day-to-day HR administration including contracts, remuneration and employee relations
• Partner directly with the founders and senior leaders on workforce planning as headcount scales
• Support the transition of key roles into New Zealand
• Build scalable, competitive recruitment pipelines for hard-to-find technical talent
• Establish HR systems and reporting fit for a fast-moving tech business
• Act as a trusted people advisor to the founders as the business scales

Requirements

• Proven experience across both talent acquisition and generalist HR, ideally within tech or startup environments
• Track record recruiting engineers and technology professionals in a competitive market
• Comfortable operating sole charge, with no team around you
• Strong operational, process-driven mindset
• Experience building HR infrastructure and process from scratch
• Tech-savvy, fast-paced, and comfortable with ambiguity
• Sound knowledge of NZ employment law and compliance
• Prior exposure to high-growth or startup businesses highly regarded
