Job Description
Lead and grow an international physical fertilizer trading desk with full ownership of business origination, trade execution, risk management and P&L. This hands-on role is suited to an experienced fertilizer trader with an established commercial network and a demonstrated ability to develop profitable, sustainable physical trading flows.
Responsibilities
- Establish and profitably grow the physical fertilizer trading business across approved products, origins and destination markets.
- Originate purchase and sales opportunities and manage transactions end-to-end, including pricing, contracting, financing, logistics, documentation, delivery, collection and claims.
- Take ownership of desk profitability, working capital and trading risks while maintaining accurate position, exposure, pipeline and P&L reporting.
- Develop sustainable relationships with suppliers and customers while ensuring compliance with applicable credit, KYC, sanctions, regulatory and risk-management requirements.
Skills/Experience Required
- Preferably 10+ years of relevant physical fertilizer trading and merchandising experience, with proven responsibility for an independently managed and profitable trading book, desk or business line.
- Demonstrable trading track record across at least two core fertilizer categories, with established relationships across producers, suppliers, importers, distributors and end-buyers.
- Proven ability to originate both purchase and sales opportunities and deliver realised trading margins and net contribution, rather than sales volume alone.
- Strong knowledge of fertilizer specifications, pricing, seasonality, freight, port operations, trade finance, documentation, insurance, quality claims and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong understanding of commodity price, counterparty, credit, FX, freight, inventory and execution risks; experience in African or other import-dependent emerging markets is advantageous, together with the ability to operate within formal credit, risk and governance controls.
