Group Fitness Instructor

About This Role

Teaching a range of fitness classes in a group setting is the core of this job, providing a quality fitness experience while upholding recreation department standards and focusing on customer service. This role suits an instructor who can adapt class content to participant needs and maintain certifications.

Responsibilities

• Set up, prepare class format and music, greet students, provide clear direction, and clean up after class for assigned schedule and other classes taught
• Educate participants on proper and safe exercise form; adjust class content to fit participant needs
• Enforce policies and procedures in group fitness activity areas
• Attend continuing education workshops to maintain certification
• Provide substitution of classes when needed
• Responsible for continuing growth of assigned class and format changes when necessary
• Provide exceptional customer service before, during, and after each class
• Responsible for cleanliness and organization of facility space, class equipment and stereo system; providing light maintenance and reporting of conditions beyond personal capability
• Attend meetings to assimilate program information, discuss policy, equipment needs and other pertinent information

Requirements

• Fitness instructor certification though a nationally recognized association (i.e. ACE, AFAA, other)
• Equivalent experience in field of expertise (i.e. Karate Black Belt, years teaching experience)
• CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)

Nice to have:

• Previous experience as a group fitness instructor
• Previous class teaching experience
