Grants Manager

About This Role

This grants manager position supports a research portfolio within the Department of Medicine, focusing on pre-award activities. The role involves managing a high volume of monthly proposal submissions, developing budgets, and ensuring compliance with federal sponsor guidelines. This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong organization and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage a high volume of monthly proposal submissions across multiple divisions
• Partner closely with Principal Investigators to develop budgets
• Ensure proposals are compliant with NIH and federal sponsor guidelines
• Balance several deadlines daily
• Coordinate submission materials
• Act as a key liaison between research teams and administrative functions
• Support post-award activities such as setting up grant accounts
• Monitor expenditures and track financial performance
• Assist with effort reporting and salary allocation
• Regularly meet with PIs to review grant portfolios and provide financial updates
• Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of grants management experience (pre-award + some post-award)
• Strong experience with NIH and federal grants
• Heavy pre-award experience, including proposal submission and budget development
• Working knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance
• Experience managing multiple proposals at once in a deadline-driven environment
• Proficiency in Excel (budgeting, tracking, projections)
• Experience partnering with Principal Investigators (PIs) or faculty stakeholders
• Experience with effort reporting, salary allocation, or grant compliance processes

Nice to have:

• Experience in an academic medical center or university setting
• Experience with clinical research grants or complex program grants
• Exposure to multi-subcontract awards
• Experience using Business Objects or similar reporting tools

• Schedule: hybrid, on-site 3 days per week
• Contract: 6-month contract-to-hire engagement
