About This Role
This role is for an experienced professional to design, build, and maintain high-quality, stable, and resilient software solutions, focusing on high-performance services and system-level delivery. The position involves contributing to technical direction, mentoring junior engineers, and championing engineering excellence within a dynamic team.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable APIs (gRPC and REST) powering core insurance services, taking ownership of complex services and their evolution
- Lead microservices and larger system components end-to-end, from requirements and architecture through implementation, deployment, and operational ownership in production
- Provide input on technology choices, design patterns, and service boundaries; participate in architecture discussions led by Tech Leads and Architects
- Coach mid-level and junior engineers through design reviews, pairing, and constructive code reviews; raise the engineering bar across the team
- Establish and enforce best practices in automated testing, observability (tracing, logging, metrics), CI/CD, and operational readiness
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex incidents; drive root-cause analysis, reliability improvements, and cost/performance optimization
- Embed security policies, coding standards, and regulatory requirements of the financial and insurance sector into design decisions from the start
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend development experience, with 5+ years working with Golang in production
- Proven track record designing and evolving gRPC and REST-based APIs at scale, including ownership of complex service-level design decisions
- Expert-level understanding of distributed systems, microservices architectures, event-driven design, and cloud-native patterns
- Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and modern DevOps workflows, including production troubleshooting at scale
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL (data modeling, performance tuning) and message queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and driving adoption of engineering best practices across a team
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for building clean, efficient, and maintainable systems
- Regular use of AI tools to improve productivity, automate or reduce repetitive work, support decision-making, and deliver higher-quality outcomes
- Ability to use AI tools responsibly by structuring effective prompts, critically validating outputs, understanding limitations, and taking ownership of the final result, and to guide others in doing the same
- Excellent English communication skills, including the ability to communicate design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders, and to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment
