About the role
Duties
At the full performance level of GS-11: You will serve as the Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist supporting the High Desert District. You will identify requirements and implement analytical techniques to solve GIS issues and will be responsible for developing and modifying GIS software applications and interfaces. You will lead activities involving spatial data and provide technical user support for all aspects of geo-spatial data and software.
At the GS-09 level: The work assignments will be designed to prepare the incumbent to perform the duties and responsibilities of the target GS-11 position.
Qualifications

To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience for the GS-09 level is defined as experience in assisting in the integration of GIS with long and short term planning and management activities; applying GIS in support of natural resources management.
Specialized Experience for the GS-11 level is defined as experience in leading GIS work for an organization; planning and coordinating projects; developing new procedures for map production.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
