General Counsel

About This Role

This role oversees the Legal Department, ensuring compliance with state and federal law, managing privacy controls, and administering equity plans. The General Counsel negotiates high-impact agreements, handles employment and other litigation, and addresses the legal needs of a dynamic technology company.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal support and guidance across various business operations and functions to manage risk and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
• Lead engagement across internal business departments to identify and resolve legal issues, and support business verticals
• Manage corporate governance and administer the equity plan
• Negotiate high-impact agreements and serve as an escalation pathway as needed during contract disputes
• Partner with the Head of Government Affairs in proactive and reactive legislative activity
• Partner with finance and banking to maintain internal financial controls, and support annual audit activities
• Day-to-day management of the intellectual property portfolio

Requirements

• Strong consumer protection experience in a B2C environment
• Experience supporting a scaled, multistate business, particularly with state-level regulatory matters
• Experience overseeing government affairs, specifically managing external lobbyists or government affairs firms
• Familiarity with private equity sponsors and the ability to navigate sponsor involvement and outside legal counsel
• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
• License to practice in any state
• Minimum seven years’ experience, both law firm and in-house experience preferred
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment
• Ability to produce results with high efficiency and accuracy
• Ability to balance risk and agility
