Game Designer

About This Role

Creating high-quality gaming experiences is at the heart of this Game Designer role at Next Level Games. You will champion the Nintendo philosophy of game development and collaborate with a talented team to deliver engaging games that delight players around the world.

Responsibilities

• Create carefully crafted gameplay moments that guide players through fun experiences
• Work closely with the Game Director to understand the project’s design direction and champion it through your designs
• Communicate clearly and present design ideas to multiple disciplines
• Design with an inclination towards simplicity and clarity
• Take ownership of your designs and core game features, collaborating with Production to drive them forward from conception to completion
• Foster a highly iterative and collaborative environment across all disciplines
• Lead by example and share expertise to improve the skills of your teammates
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of tools and development processes

Requirements

• Experience shipping 1+ games, preferably with console experience
• Strong desire to solve challenging design problems
• Willingness to proactively coordinate with other departments
• Proficiency in Programming or Scripting with experience in scripting gameplay moments and enemy encounters
• Strong layout skills with a deep understanding of how 3D spaces impact gameplay and pacing
• Proficiency in 3D Layout programs (Unreal, Unity, etc.) with experience designing and building levels for level-based games
• A portfolio is recommended

Important Details

• Work format: hybrid, with the first three months fully in-studio and flexibility to work from home after that, requiring three days per week in the Vancouver studio
