Freight Broker / Branch Manager

About This Role

Leading the development of the company's Houston operation, this role is for an experienced, entrepreneurial, and results-driven Freight Broker / Branch Manager. It suits an established freight brokerage professional with a proven book of business, strong shipper relationships, and a track record of generating profitable, recurring freight.

Responsibilities

• Bring and develop an established book of business, subject to customer portability and applicable agreements
• Generate new business through outbound sales, cold calling, networking, referrals, and industry relationships
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with shippers and transportation partners
• Develop recurring freight opportunities across FTL, LTL, flatbed, drayage, and other transportation services
• Manage customer relationships, pricing, quoting, and ongoing account development
• Negotiate competitive rates while maintaining healthy gross margins
• Retain existing customers and identify opportunities to expand account volume
• Ensure consistent communication and a high standard of customer service
• Coordinate shipments from booking through pickup, delivery, and final documentation
• Work with qualified carriers to secure reliable capacity
• Monitor shipment performance and resolve service issues promptly
• Collaborate with the back-office team on load tracking, billing, invoicing, carrier compliance, credit checks, and administrative support
• Help establish the company's Houston presence
• Develop local market opportunities and contribute to branch profitability
• Recruit, train, mentor, and manage additional freight brokers as the operation expands
• Establish performance expectations and promote accountability, teamwork, and customer retention
• Help build a Houston team of five brokers as business performance supports expansion

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years in freight brokerage, freight forwarding, logistics, transportation, or a closely related field
• Established book of business: existing shipper relationships and demonstrable experience managing recurring freight are strongly preferred
• Proven ability to prospect, negotiate, close business, and develop long-term customer relationships
• Demonstrated ability to generate consistent gross profit and manage customer accounts profitably
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Ability and willingness to recruit, coach, and lead a growing team
• Self-motivated, commercially minded, organized, and comfortable working independently
• Must be willing to transition from the initial remote arrangement to a full-time, on-site role in Houston, Texas, as the local operation is established
