About the role
Our client, a leading retailer, is looking for a Freelance Sr. Designer to join their team.
This is a hybrid onsite / remote role (preferably 3 days onsite per week at their Herald Square office) and 2 days remote. The role will be 40 hours per week for the next 4-5 months, with potential to extend or go full-time.

The Freelance Sr. Designer will:

Lead the concepting, art direction, and design of bold, innovative creative across digital, print, motion, video, broadcast, social, and retail experiences.

Translate brand strategies and business objectives into compelling creative concepts, visual systems, and integrated campaign executions that elevate the customer experience.

Develop storyboards, creative territories, and narrative-driven concepts that transform ideas into memorable and emotionally engaging visual storytelling.

Partner with writers, marketers, strategists, producers, and cross-functional teams to create breakthrough creative work that drives engagement and supports business goals.

Leverage AI-powered creative tools and emerging technologies to enhance ideation, visual exploration, image generation, storyboarding, prototyping, and creative experimentation.

Bring a strong point of view on design, culture, consumer behavior, and emerging trends to create fresh, relevant, and forward-thinking work.

Present creative concepts, visual directions, and strategic rationale to stakeholders with clarity and confidence.

Utilize typography, color, composition, motion, photography, and other visual elements to craft compelling brand communications across multiple touchpoints.

Ensure creative excellence and consistency while maintaining high standards of design craft, innovation, and storytelling.
The Freelance Sr. Designer has:

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, Advertising, Visual Communications, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

5+ years of experience in design, art direction, creative development, or integrated marketing environments.

A portfolio showcasing strong concept development, campaign thinking, brand storytelling, and executional excellence.

Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Familiarity with Figma, motion design tools, AI creative platforms, and prototyping software.

Strong understanding of typography, layout, composition, visual hierarchy, and design systems.

Ability to provide visual direction for photography, motion, video, and content creation initiatives.

Excellent conceptual, sketching, ideation, and creative problem-solving skills.

Strong communication, presentation, project management, and organizational skills.
-
Experience collaborating with production teams and preparing production-ready creative assets across a variety of formats and channels.
In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data. This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
