THIS POSITION REQUIRES A CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE AND A CURRENT FORK LIFT OPERATOR (POWERED INDUSTRIAL TRUCK OPERATOR) CERTIFICATE

The tour of duty for this position is Monday (night) - Saturday (morning) 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The individual selected for this position will:

  • As a working leader, the incumbent is responsible for passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors.
  • Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained.
  • Obtain necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift.
  • Advise other workers to follow supervisor’s instructions and to meet deadlines.
  • Report to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays; and answering supervisors’ questions on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning the need for additional on-the-job training for individual employees).
  • Moves completed bales from baling machines with a forklift and places bales on flatbed truck for transport.
  • Moves full recycling trucks weighing more than 80 pounds into cart dumper and operates lever that dumps recyclable materials into conveyor belt to the feed hopper.
  • Completes shipping documents indicating recyclable grades. Coordinates with contractors for disposition of materials at specified levels. Assists contractors with loading and disposition of bales of materials.
  • Operates a forklift trucks, with a capacity over 10,000 lbs., to load and unload, stack/unstack, and move boxes, crates, packages, pallets, or loose items.
  • Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and heavy construction building materials and supplies to and from trucks.
  • Moves heavy boxes and cartons by hand, hand truck, or dolly; opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears; and stacks boxes and cartons where directed.
  • Provides set-up and support for special events.
  • Sets up dining areas or Committee rooms in various configurations for many types of events. Sets up equipment and furniture according to work orders or instructions and rearranges existing furniture as requested. Picks-up/delivers pitchers and glasses as needed.
  • Installs wrapping materials and bale banding wires into the pressure chamber.
  • Loads sorted materials into the feed hopper and into sealed compression chambers.
  • Operates conveyor belt switches to start, stop, and speed conveyor belt with materials. Bales compressed materials by recyclable grades to specified sizes and weights.
  • Sorts materials as they move along the conveyor belt to the feed hopper, removing bottles, cans, plastics, and other non-recyclable material by recyclable category grades to meet specifications.
