Forensic Accountant

About This Role

This role involves compiling and reviewing accounting evidence to uncover financial losses that might lead to legal disputes for a federal agency. The forensic accountant will help determine if financial institutions' auditors followed Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and if financial presentations adhered to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Federal agency in identifying potential financial statement misstatements undetected by the Bank's auditors, which may form the basis for an accountants' liability claim
• Provide litigation support, including tracing funds, collecting accounting data and information, and implementing compliance techniques to confirm or dispute auditors' practices, procedures, validation techniques, scope of services compliance, or sampling methods
• Review accounting policies and financial statements, analyze accounting systems and databases, and review and analyze auditor work papers, recorded balances, and accounting transactions for evidence of material misstatement or fraudulent activities
• Conduct interviews under the guidance of the Federal agency Investigations Technical Monitor and in the presence of Federal agency internal legal counsel

Requirements

• Four-year business or accounting degree or current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
• Five years' experience in auditing and forensic accounting
• Two years' managerial/supervisory experience in financial accounting or financial investigations
• Working knowledge of accounting and data systems
• Progressively responsible experience in financial investigations
• Skilled in professional writing and oral communication
• Experience in development and implementation of policies and procedures
• Ability to develop and conduct training programs relevant to Task Order assignments
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, for developing complex reports and spreadsheet analyses
