Compensation:
New Hire Rate of Pay: $20.25 hourly
- Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications. Pay Range is equal to the Classified Pay Range of Grade 20.

Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Food Service Supervisor oversees daily food service operations to ensure residents of the Kansas Veterans’ Home (KVH) receive safe, high-quality meals in accordance with facility standards and regulatory requirements. This role provides leadership to dietary staff, supports menu and meal service execution, and maintains a clean, efficient, and compliant work environment. An essential function of this position is regular and predictable attendance.
Job Responsibilities (May include, but not limited to):
- Supervise and direct food service staff during food prep, meal service, and cleanup
- Ensure all meals are prepared and served according to established menus, guidelines, and needs
- Monitor food quality, portion control, presentation, and timeliness of service
- Assign daily work assignments and monitor progress
- Evaluate staff performance and complete employee reviews
- Document coaching and feedback sessions, as well as performance concerns
- Ensure adequate staffing in the Dining Room, prepare monthly schedules
- Review leave requests, perform timekeeping duties
- Participate in Care Plan meetings as needed, review menus, therapeutic diets, and special food requests
- Maintain quality services through routine evaluation of all aspects of food service operations
- Provide comprehensive training to team members, including instruction on equipment use, safe food-handling practices, and long-term care regulatory requirements
- Participates in a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule
- Contributes to a positive and cohesive team environment, working collaboratively with other Food Service Supervisors and interdisciplinary teams

Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in commercial/institutional cooking.
- Education may be substituted for experience as determined by the agency.
- Be free from conviction of a criminal offense that prevents employment with the Kansas Veterans Home.
- One (1) year of experience in commercial/institutional cooking.
- Preferred Qualifications: (May be used to screen candidates)
- One (1) year of experience in a leadership role overseeing dietetic services, including supervisory responsibilities and knowledge of food and nutrition principles
- One (1) year of experience supervising subordinate staff members and evaluating performance
- One (1) year of food preparation experience in a residential or hospital setting
- A positive work history in the food service field within the previous five (5) years
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational abilities
- Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
- Must take and pass a drug screening within 24 hours of being offered the position.
- Obtain a Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate (Request yours here.)
- Pass a criminal background screening.
