Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Fleet Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for safely operating a variety of vehicles to transport passengers, including children, seniors, and individuals with special needs. Your focus will be on ensuring passenger safety, adhering to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations, and providing exceptional customer service. This position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact in the community by delivering reliable and compassionate transportation services.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate buses, transit vehicles, or specialized transport vans in accordance with all traffic laws and company policies.
- Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, including wheelchair assistance and child safety procedures.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and first aid when necessary.
- Maintain communication with dispatchers and other team members to respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments.
- Ensure vehicle safety by conducting pre-trip inspections, reporting maintenance needs, and adhering to vehicle codes.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing passenger inquiries, managing behavior, and ensuring a comfortable ride experience.
- Comply with all transportation safety regulations, school policies (if applicable), and local/state commercial driving laws.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus or transit operation.
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or paratransit services.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency stop procedures, and transportation safety regulations.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable, along with behavior management skills.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred; training provided if necessary.
- Familiarity with student discipline policies and childcare considerations is advantageous.
