Flagger

About This Role

This seasonal Flagger position ensures safe work zones for the public and the work crew, directing traffic around construction sites. During winter, Flaggers also perform snow and ice removal duties, including operating small equipment. This is an hourly role for up to 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform safe and orderly traffic control and flagging duties within MUTCD standards and the City of Fort Collins handbook
• Assist in snow and ice removal operations, including operating small equipment
• Protect yourself and the public from road construction and maintenance dangers
• Protect the work crew from dangers presented by the traveling public
• Ensure that traffic proceeds smoothly and in a timely fashion through the work zone
• Set-up and break-down traffic control devices in work zones
• Answer citizen questions and/or direct them to the right person
• Respond to emergencies as directed
• Control and direct the movement of the traveling public through construction worksites
• Communicate effectively with construction crews and supervisors to coordinate traffic control

Requirements

• Minimum age 18
• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to receive, understand, and take positive appropriate action from information/instructions presented verbally or in writing
• Ability to remain flexible in dealing with daily changes
• Ability to remain tactful, helpful, and cordial in dealing with the public and employees
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to follow and enforce City safety regulations
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
• Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
• Understanding of Federal, State and local traffic laws and regulations
• Current Drivers License
• Flagger Certification: may obtain certification through the City of Fort Collins when hired

Nice to have:

• 1+ year related experience and working around heavy equipment
• Any industry-specific experience
