Firmware Engineer

About This Role

This role involves contributing to the development of technologies that ensure continuous electrical power supply in critical applications. The Firmware Engineer will join the Research & Development team, focusing on the design, development, optimization, and validation of control firmware for next-generation UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) energy conversion systems. This position is for a C/C++ developer who wants to work in a technologically advanced and international environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded firmware and real-time control algorithms for UPS applications and power conversion systems
• Define and implement system operating, management, and protection logics under various operating conditions
• Support algorithm development through modeling, simulation, and SIL and HIL validation activities
• Test, debug, and validate firmware on target hardware
• Collaborate with the laboratory team for product validation and the development of automatic test systems
• Analyze and resolve complex technical issues arising during development and field use
• Participate in defining technical specifications and drafting project documentation according to company quality processes
• Contribute to the evolution of control platforms and next-generation technologies
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and international R&D sites within the Group

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Automation, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines
• Consolidated experience of at least 4-5 years in embedded firmware development in C/C++ language
• Solid knowledge of digital control systems
• Knowledge of real-time embedded architectures and microcontroller-based platforms
• Knowledge of real-time communication protocols
• Experience in validation and debugging activities for embedded systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication, organizational, and priority management skills
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams in an international context
• Excellent knowledge of Italian
• Good knowledge of English
• Willingness to undertake short and occasional business trips in Italy and abroad to the Group's R&D sites for technical collaboration activities

Nice to have:

• Experience with UPS systems, industrial power converters, electric drives, renewable energy systems, or similar applications
• Knowledge of main power static converter topologies
• Knowledge of advanced control techniques and digital signal processing
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and Model-Based Design methodologies
