About the role
Role Overview As a Field Service Technician II , you will install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain telecommunications equipment including fiber optic and copper cables, PBX, Key Systems, and other business systems. You will perform outside plant work, including splicing, locating, and repairing aerial, buried, and underground cables. Your responsibilities include installing and servicing customer premise equipment, providing exceptional customer service, and proactively selling TDS products and services such as internet, voice, and video.
Key Duties
- Install, test, troubleshoot, and repair telecommunications and network equipment.
- Perform cable splicing, fault testing, and locate buried or aerial cables.
- Maintain central office equipment and support system backups.
- Respond to trouble dispatches, provide advanced troubleshooting, and support record systems.
- Deliver outstanding customer service, educate customers on products, and identify sales opportunities.
- Manage projects related to system installations.
Qualifications & Skills
- At least 1 year of technical telecommunications experience, military service, or prior TDS experience.
- 6+ months of fiber/copper splicing, installation, and switch training.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
- Strong understanding of fiber and copper plant installation, troubleshooting, and telecommunication products/services.
- Proficiency with computer applications and record systems.
- Excellent customer service, communication, organizational, and independent decision-making skills.
- Willingness to be on-call, work overtime, and pass safety and background checks.
Additional Information This role offers a sign-on bonus and requires residence within a 60-minute drive of the specified warehouse. Candidates at Technician II or III levels will be considered based on skills and experience.
