About The Opportunity We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Field Service Engineer / Onsite Service Engineer to join our growing service team in the Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with an academic background in analytical chemistry or a related scientific field , along with exposure to chromatographic and mass spectrometric instrumentation , who is interested in developing a long-term career in advanced technical field service.

The Field Service Engineer will work closely with experienced senior service personnel while developing the technical knowledge and hands-on skills required to independently support customers and perform future field service assignments.

In this role, you will provide installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, qualification, and technical support for sophisticated chromatographic and mass spectrometric instruments . You will work directly with customers to diagnose equipment issues, perform corrective maintenance, complete hardware and software qualification activities, and ensure instruments are operating accurately, safely, and efficiently.

The ideal candidate is technically curious, dependable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. You should be comfortable working with complex scientific instrumentation, technical documentation, diagnostic tools, computer-controlled systems, and customers in laboratory and technical environments.

Key Responsibilities Equipment Service, Maintenance & Repair

  • Provide repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support for chromatographic and mass spectrometric instruments.
  • Diagnose equipment, hardware, software, and system performance issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Replace components and perform necessary equipment adjustments and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions efficiently and identify appropriate corrective actions.
  • Use diagnostic tools, test equipment, and hand tools to evaluate equipment performance and resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure serviced instruments are returned to proper operating condition.

Installation, Qualification & Performance Verification

  • Support the installation and setup of chromatographic and mass spectrometric instrumentation at customer locations.
  • Perform hardware installation qualification activities.
  • Perform controlling software installation and qualification activities.
  • Conduct Installation Qualification (IQ) activities in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements.
  • Conduct Operational Qualification (OQ) testing to verify that instruments and associated systems operate according to specifications.
  • Perform Performance Verification (PV) activities to confirm equipment performance and operational reliability.
  • Document installation, qualification, testing, maintenance, and service activities accurately and completely.

Troubleshooting & Technical Support

  • Respond to customer equipment and technical support needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Diagnose complex instrument problems using a logical and systematic troubleshooting approach.
  • Analyze hardware, software, operational, and performance-related issues.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, service documentation, diagrams, specifications, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior service personnel, engineering teams, or product specialists when appropriate.
  • Work closely with senior service engineers to develop advanced troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Apply lessons learned from previous service calls to improve future troubleshooting efficiency.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Provide professional and responsive technical support at customer locations.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment issues, service activities, repairs, and recommendations.
  • Explain technical findings and corrective actions in a manner appropriate for both technical and non-technical customers.
  • Maintain strong and professional relationships with customers.
  • Coordinate with internal service, engineering, product, and technical teams to resolve customer issues.
  • Represent the company professionally while working at customer facilities.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare accurate and detailed service reports.
  • Document equipment problems, troubleshooting steps, repairs, solutions, and recommendations.
  • Maintain complete records of service activities, maintenance work, qualifications, and performance verification.
  • Report recurring equipment or system issues to engineering and product teams.
  • Identify opportunities for service improvements and provide recommendations where applicable.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment reliability, service processes, and customer experience.

Training & Professional Development

  • Work closely with and under the supervision of senior service personnel.
  • Participate in hands-on technical training and field service development.
  • Build the skills necessary to independently perform future field service assignments.
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge related to chromatographic and mass spectrometric instrumentation.
  • Stay current with new equipment, technologies, software, diagnostic methods, and service procedures.

Required Qualifications Education Candidates Should Possess One Of The Following

  • Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or another closely related scientific or technical discipline.
  • Advanced degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or a related field is a plus.
  • Equivalent technical education and relevant hands-on experience may be considered where appropriate.

Candidates Should Have Academic Or Practical Exposure To

  • Chromatographic instrumentation
  • Mass spectrometric instrumentation
  • Analytical laboratory equipment
  • Scientific instrumentation
  • Instrument operation and troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications Candidates with the following experience or exposure will be highly regarded:

  • Hands-on experience with chromatography systems.
  • Exposure to mass spectrometry instrumentation.
  • Experience working in analytical laboratories.
  • Experience servicing scientific or laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with laboratory instrument installation and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Verification (PV).
  • Experience troubleshooting instrument hardware and controlling software.
  • Experience working with computer-controlled scientific equipment.
  • Familiarity with regulated laboratory environments.
  • Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Technical field service or customer-facing technical support experience.

Work Environment & Travel This is a full-time, field-based and on-site position based in the Salt Lake City, Utah Metropolitan Area .

The Field Service Engineer will regularly work at customer locations and may be required to travel locally throughout the Salt Lake City area based on service assignments and customer needs.

Minimum Requirements To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
