The Field Engineer Intern is responsible for implementing IT installations, services, and changes at Copart’s HQ, offices, and yards. This includes office support, operational growth, yard moves, remodels, decommissioning, and general IT support. Some travel may be required.

Duties

  • Remotely assist with installs, troubleshooting, and repairs of network, desktop, and voice equipment.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data circuits; escalate issues to vendors as needed.
  • Track and resolve tickets in the Helpdesk system.
  • Document and manage IT equipment inventory.
  • Install and support IT devices, including PCs, servers, VoIP, mobility devices, and infrastructure.
  • Assist in IT projects, including research, configuration, and deployment.
  • Coordinate IT moves, adds, and changes across yards and offices.
  • Update project documentation in Copart’s SharePoint.
  • Determine and design infrastructure wiring on floor plans.
  • Work with vendors to obtain quotes and manage IT purchases.
  • Verify IT equipment arrivals and conduct inventory checks.
  • Survey sites and report discrepancies.
  • Ensure telecommunications circuits and phone lines are operational.
  • Expedite Telecom issues and assist with IT installations.
  • Conduct connectivity tests for all IT equipment.
  • Resolve IT issues on opening day of new sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of telecommunications, LAN cabling, and data circuits.
  • Self-motivated with good judgment under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience with physical network and PC equipment installations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Understanding of cabling infrastructure and standards.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong project management abilities.
  • Knowledge of data networking and telecommunications.
