Fiber Optic Technician

About This Role

This traveling position is for an experienced fiber optic technician to support commercial, industrial, and data center projects. The role involves hands-on fiber optic splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting, particularly in live or critical data center environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform fusion splicing of fiber optic cables
• Terminate fiber optic cables using LC, ST, and SC connectors
• Conduct fiber testing using OTDRs, optical power meters, and related equipment
• Troubleshoot and resolve fiber optic connectivity and performance issues
• Install, route, label, and manage fiber cabling in data centers and other commercial environments
• Install and support structured cabling infrastructure, including cable trays, ladder racks, patch panels, and cross-connects
• Work in live data center environments while following strict access, safety, and change management procedures
• Maintain accurate testing results, installation documentation, and project records
• Ensure all installations meet applicable industry standards, project specifications, and quality requirements
• Travel to project sites as required

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on fiber optic experience
• Proven experience with fiber fusion splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting
• Previous data center experience is required
• Experience using OTDRs and optical power meters
• Working knowledge of fiber and copper structured cabling systems
• Familiarity with BICSI, EIA/TIA, NEC, and TIA-942 standards and applicable industry best practices
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, high-security environments
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to safety and quality
• Willingness and ability to travel 100% for project assignments

Nice to have:

• Live or mission-critical data center installations
• Rack and stack support, cable tray and ladder rack installations, patch panels, and cross-connects
• Experience working under strict data center access controls and change management procedures
