Fashion Designer

About This Role

Designing the collections for the GARAGE brand is the core of this role, focusing on creating head-to-toe outfits that are fresh, on-brand, and suitable for the customer's lifestyle. The designer will pay close attention to details like fabric, color, print, and fit, and will work to translate trends into bestsellers. This position reports to the Senior Designer and Design Director, collaborating with Concept, Merchandising, Sourcing, and other product teams to manage collections from initial sketch to launch.

Responsibilities

• Research emerging fashion trends and contribute ideas for concept and product direction that are relevant and distinctly GARAGE for the customer
• Develop and communicate design concepts through sketching, digital design tools, AI-assisted exploration where appropriate, and other visual methods
• Support the Senior Designer and Design Director in building and editing the assortment against the business line plan, helping balance range, newness, and commercial product
• Prepare accurate and detailed tech design setups, including tech sketches, BOMs, design packages, and construction notes, for handoff to Technical Design
• Attend fittings and contribute to fit, construction, proportion, and detail problem-solving throughout product development
• Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, Technical Design, and Sourcing to ensure designs are creative, executable, and aligned with business objectives
• Present design ideas clearly in team and cross-functional meetings
• Build and maintain strong knowledge of raw materials, working with the Materials team on seasonal fabric sourcing and managing fabric requests and approvals
• Provide guidance and support to Assistant Designers when needed

Requirements

• Post-secondary diploma, DEC, or bachelor
• 5-7 years of fashion design experience, with strong technical sketching skills
• Creative designer with good fashion and commercial sensibility and an understanding of the GARAGE customer and brand aesthetic
• Solid experience with fabric, wash, artwork, trims, and surface details, with the ability to apply them to apparel design
• Strong trend awareness and curiosity, with a growing ability to judge how and when trends are relevant to the GARAGE customer
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and other digital design and presentation tools
• Good communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
• Working knowledge of the apparel product development process, from concept and sketch through fittings and final product
• Ability to balance creativity with commercial needs, and eagerness to learn and take on more ownership over time

Nice to have:

• Experience with AI-assisted design tools, PLM systems, and/or other apparel design platforms
