About the role
Duties
The incumbent is directly responsible for national and cyber security activities for the SSA. Primary responsibilities for this position are to provide leadership and management in the following areas:
- Lead the innovation of advanced security technologies and utilizing a risk-based approach to properly test and introduce them into the enterprise environment. Lead security engineering professionals responsible for planning, design, implementation and ongoing support of security systems of high complexity to fulfill agency business needs.
- Enable SSA's mission in social insurance by facilitating a best-in-class security infrastructure. Effectively and efficiently manage security monitoring, tuning, and incident response.
- Manage ongoing security engineering support, maintenance, security, and availability of SSA mission services based on business requirements and adherence to tight operational, security, and procedural models.
- Formulates alternative technical strategies and makes expert recommendations to agency executives and management teams to increase effectiveness of organization and technology solutions.
Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, candidates must possess specialized experience at a senior level which demonstrates ability to perform the duties of the position, including progressively responsible experience directly related to the skills and abilities outlined under the Mandatory Technical Qualifications (TQs) below. Typically, experience of this nature will be gained in a related field; in a position held for at least one year at the GS-15, comparable pay band or level above in the federal government; or comparable position with a state or local government, or private sector organization.

The TQs describe the necessary professional and technical knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Responses must clearly demonstrate possession of the required qualifications set forth below.
TQ1 - Ability to lead the analysis, testing, building, introduction and implementation of enterprise-wide security technologies and solutions.
TQ2 - Ability to create an enterprise technical strategy and make recommendations to senior decision makers.
TQ3 - Knowledge of Federal security policies, operational procedures, and IT security risk assessments.
TQ4 - Ability to manage mission critical security systems.
Senior Professional Qualifications (SPQs)
SPQ1 - Certified Information Systems Security Professional is highly desired (Include proof of certification).
