About the role

Job Summary

The Estimator I supports sales, engineering, and operations teams by developing accurate cost estimates, engineered solutions, scopes of work, and bid proposals for structured cabling, data centers, security, audio visual, wireless, and technology infrastructure projects. This entry-level role is the first step on IES Communications' Estimator career path (Estimator I → Estimator II → Senior Estimator) and plays a key role in helping IES Communications secure new business opportunities while ensuring projects are estimated accurately and positioned for successful execution.

General Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, takeoffs, scopes of work, and engineered solutions for technology infrastructure projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and requirements to develop competitive bid proposals.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and manufacturers to support project success from bid to turnover.
  • Ensure estimates meet company quality, safety, and profitability standards while maintaining aggressive deadlines.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required. Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting customers, sales teams, or project-related activities is preferred.
  • Structured cabling, low-voltage, telecommunications, or construction industry experience is a plus.
  • RCDD certification is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to develop technical solutions, prepare estimates, and communicate recommendations through written and visual presentations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or similar takeoff software preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet company driving requirements and travel occasionally (5–10%) as needed.
