Duties
As an Epidemiologist you will:
- Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on public policies or scientific studies or surveys.
- Use statistical techniques to interpret and analyze observed health phenomenon.
- Synthesize social science and epidemiologic data to help design effective prevention programs and practice guidelines.
- Perform statistical analyses for data collection.
- Write comprehensive statistical and analytical reports based on studies or projects.
- Provide scientific advice and technical assistance to various public, private and/or nonprofit health and/or health-related agencies and organizations.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree with major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirements, applicants must meet the specialized experience requirements stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Applicants may meet this requirement in one of the following ways:
A. Must possess one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service to include conducting a variety of epidemiologic, surveillance, monitoring, or evaluation activities related to infectious diseases,
OR
B. Must have completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a PhD or equivalent graduate degree in a field that is directly related to the duties of this position,
OR
C. Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
