This engineering manager role leads the development and operations of a Warehouse Management System (WMS) for a global B2B SaaS enterprise. The platform is critical for managing complex workflows including inventory control, order fulfillment, and omnichannel commerce for brands, retailers, and logistics partners. The manager will drive engineering and quality assurance teams, fostering a culture of outcome ownership and guiding a transition to an integrated, AI-first working model.
Responsibilities
Ensure predictable engineering output by managing capacity planning, identifying risks early, and executing recovery strategies to meet 90-day commitments with high accuracy and zero delays
Establish and maintain rigorous standards for code quality, test coverage (including RSpec, integration, and load testing), and deployment frequency
Directly manage service availability and latency, overseeing incident response and root cause analysis to resolve recurring issues
Operate within established architectural and security guardrails to protect multi-tenant isolation and system performance
Monitor and optimize engineering costs related to compute, storage, and AI tooling, ensuring that cost-per-delivered-item and infrastructure expenses trend downward without compromising quality
Drive the adoption of AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot) to shift the team toward spec-driven delivery
Lead the transition of AI-enabled features, such as intelligent slotting and capacity forecasting, from pilot programs to production-grade solutions
Manage the full lifecycle of team members, including hiring, performance reviews, and career growth planning
Engage directly in solution design, prototyping, and complex implementation tasks where necessary to unblock the team
Partner effectively with the Engineering Head, Product Management, Delivery Managers, and other technical leads to align on priorities, manage technical debt, and ensure smooth go-live processes
Coordinate with Sales, Customer Success, Implementation teams, and Security groups to manage customer commitments, handle escalations, and ensure release readiness
Requirements
9 to 18 years of software engineering background, including a minimum of 4 years in a leadership role managing engineering teams and owning delivery outcomes
Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails backend development at scale, with strong knowledge of asynchronous processing (Sidekiq/Redis), PostgreSQL performance tuning, and high-throughput system architectures
Proven experience building distributed, event-driven systems on AWS, including EKS/Kubernetes, ECS, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, Aurora, S3, API Gateway, and Redis
Strong capability in designing scalable, multi-tenant architectures with robust handling of idempotency, retries, backpressure, and failure scenarios

Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CodePipeline), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/Helm), and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, AWS CDK)
Demonstrated experience leading QA engineers or quality practices, with a focus on maintaining independent sign-off and improving DORA metrics
Practical experience utilizing AI coding tools to enhance productivity and a track record of transitioning teams to spec-driven workflows
Familiarity with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 controls, GDPR, PII handling, and secure SDLC practices including threat modeling and vulnerability scanning
Ability to calibrate performance levels, coach team members, manage underperformance, and guide teams through organizational change
A mindset focused on outcome ownership, execution discipline, systems thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a structured leadership framework while maintaining the autonomy to solve problems proactively
Nice to have:
Experience with monolith-to-microservices migration and domain knowledge in WMS, OMS, TMS, or 3PL logistics
