Duties
You will be responsible for operating one or more types of heavy equipment.
Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include:
* Safely operating engineering and construction equipment such as grader, backhoe, street sweeper, road magnet, etc.
* Excavating, digging trenches and loading dump trucks with refuse and sand.
* Adjusting attachments for proper level, angle, or depth according to the work to be done and the type of equipment used.
* Operating snow removal equipment such as snow plows, sanding equipment and front loaders.
Qualifications
Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.
Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:
* Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT)
* Operation of motor vehicles.
* Work practices (including keeping things near, clean and in order.)
* Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)
* Ability to drive safely (motor vehicles)
* Operate safely (non-motor vehicle)
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
This position does not have a positive education requirement. If you are including education on your resume, report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
