Engineering Equipment Operator

Duties

• Operates a variety of gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment at the journeyman level. Types of equipment/machinery used, but are not limited to - graders, loaders, backhoes, road brooms, D-7 dozers, rubber tracked skid steer, dump trucks, low bed trucks, excavator, fork lifts, and rotary snow blowers.
• Operates equipment to remove snow and ice from park roads, load dump trucks, clean ditches, move logs and debris, spread materials, grade road shoulders and gravel roads, blade patch, haul equipment and materials, sand park roads, remove hazard trees etc.
• Work is sometimes done in confined areas close to buildings, historic structures, trees, rocks, steep cliffs and drop-offs without guard rails and other obstructions.
• Preventive maintenance in compliance with manufacturer's specifications, completing simple repairs and assisting in more complex repairs of all equipment operated, installing road closure gates, sign maintenance, shoveling snow, flagging, hazard tree removal, brushing, culvert cleaning, and other duties associated with the construction and maintenance of park roads and related structures.
• Works outside in moderate to severe weather conditions, but generally in an enclosed cab in winter. Work projects vary in elevation from approximately 4,800 to 8,500 feet. Mountainous terrain with numerous curves and heavy visitation subjects the incumbent to traffic hazards. The operator is exposed to noise, dust, exhaust fumes, vibration, jerking, jolting and long periods of sitting while operating equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

1. Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
2. Must possess a valid state Commercial Driver's License, Class A with Tanker Endorsement (SCREEN OUT)
3. Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles)
4. Ability to Interpret Instructions (related to mobile equipment operation)
5. Operation of Motor Vehicles
6. Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean and in order)
