Endocrinology Triage Nurse

About This Role

This nursing role supports the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, working as part of a team of nurses, nurse practitioners, and medical doctors. The Clinical Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients primarily via phone or patient portal, utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status and implement clinical interventions.

Responsibilities

• Perform phone management with patients' parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management
• Discuss patient and family concerns over the phone and/or via the electronic health record
• Provide and develop patient/family education materials surrounding common endocrinology disorders
• Communicate adjustments in treatment plan to families
• Formulate care plans for specific patients and document the nursing process in patient's record
• Evaluate patient response to interventions and modify plan of care as needed to achieve health care goals
• Communicate adjustments or changes in treatment plans to patient/family, including medication administration
• Develop and participate in educating patients and their families about care programs
• Communicate lab and other test results to families
• Provide medication refills
• Assist providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans, and preauthorization
• Review referrals for new patients
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment
• Work closely with the triage team and endocrine staff to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families
• Keep current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs
• Orient and educate new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures
• Utilize knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution, and initiate appropriate interventions in crisis situations
• Participate in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care
• Advocate for patients and families to ensure unique needs are met
• Collaborate with highly skilled team members dedicated to achieving patient goals and providing world class care
• Actively participate in educational opportunities

Requirements

• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (to be obtained within 30 days of hire)
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah
• Maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah
