Emergency Services Dispatcher

About This Role

Dispatching emergency services to the public and evaluating 911 calls is the core of this job. It involves determining the nature of emergencies, prioritizing calls, and performing crisis intervention during high-risk situations until field units arrive.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency police, fire, and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls
• Dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment
• Evaluate 911 emergency calls
• Interrogate callers to determine the problem and the nature of the call
• Prioritize all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls
• Identify the nature of emergency, level of response required, and provide this and any additional information to the responding units
• Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene
• Independently determine, based on local policy and procedure, appropriate jurisdiction and services to be rendered

Requirements

• At least one year of specialized experience providing emergency police, fire, and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls, and dispatching appropriate personnel and equipment
• Knowledge of Emergency Dispatching Services
• Knowledge of the Operation and Equipment in a Dispatching Organization
• Skill Performing Office Automation Duties
