Duties
As an Electronics Technician (MVO) you will:
- Perform a variety of tests to determine condition and functioning of the equipment including measurements to determine communication and transmission characteristics.
- Prepare and install fiber optic cable and termination equipment.
- Install and maintain the telecommunications infrastructure supporting various systems.
- Prepare wiring/block diagrams, as-built drawings, write reports and perform technical briefings.
- Determine best installation and repaid methods required for each application in accordance with requirements.
- Operate a motor vehicle of 2 1/2 -ton capacity and bucket trucks, where gross vehicle weight exceeds 26,000 pounds.

Experience required:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) experience analyzing test results to make changes to equipment configurations to ensure communication connectivity; (2) experience diagnosing and repairing cable and fiber optic path faults; (3) experience evaluating engineering plans for installation of new systems/subsystems; and (4) experience analyzing and interpreting cable plant requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (****GS-09).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
- Knowledge of the inter-relationships of communication systems and transmission techniques.
- Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cable splicing techniques.
- Skill in reading and interpreting circuit wiring.
- Ability to evaluate system performance.
- Ability to operate heavy vehicles and equipment.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you can use your education to meet the basic requirement AND the minimum qualifications if you possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR have completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
