Duties
At the GS-11 level, the individual selected for this position will:
- Perform field maintenance technical services (e.g. installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, reporting on) and related support for a wide range of complex electronic, electro-mechanical, data acquisition, communications equipment, and stand-alone and networked computer systems.
- Implement nationally issued technical orders issued by higher level (e.g. system/equipment modification, software upgrade); plan and conduct complex tests, and analyze results.
- Develop and devise improvements and alterations for regionally or locally acquired equipment and procedures.
- Maintain documentation and spares on all systems and equipment.
- Provide Information Technology (IT) support in the administration, monitoring, operation, and maintenance of the site's computer systems, diverse in both architecture and platform, Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), microcomputers, and associated hardware and software.
- Install, configure, and maintain a variety of operating system environments and applications; including hubs, switches, routers, workstations and desktops.
- Coordinate installation of hardware/software; security measures, data integrity/recovery procedures; and provides technical assistance and training to users.
- Serve as a technical focal point for maintenance on all systems and equipment for assigned local and remote areas.
- Participate in site engineering projects from advising on customer requirements and limitations to assisting staff managers define problems.
- Advise on problems and solutions, and may serve as a contracting officer's technical representative (COTR) or technical monitor.
The GS-10 is developmental leading to performance of the above duties.

EDUCATION: This position has no positive education requirement for this position. However, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience in order to be found minimally qualified.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-10:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
- Installing, operating, and maintaining a wide range of electronic, electro-mechanical, data acquisition, communications equipment, and computer systems.
- Using schematic diagrams to troubleshoot and repair complex electronic and electro-mechanical systems.
- Conducting testing of field equipment.
- Providing technical support in the operation of computer systems.
To qualify at the GS-11:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
- Developing and designing test and repair equipment, analyzing repair practices, and using schematic diagrams to troubleshoot and repair complex electronic and electro-mechanical systems.
- Developing maintenance standards and procedures, testing and evaluating new or modified systems, or analyzing the compatibility of interlocking components and systems.
- Planning and directing the installation of complex systems, and installing, operating, and maintaining a wide range of electronic, electro-mechanical, data acquisition, communications equipment, and computer systems.
- Designing and analyzing circuits, determining feasibility of these designs, evaluating equipment performance under varying environmental conditions, collecting data, or designing or modifying designs to achieve performance and cost objectives;
- Conducting testing of field equipment and providing technical support in the operation of computer systems.
