About the role
Duties
As an Electronics Technician, you will be described as helping to apply technical work to modeling and simulation systems that support developmental and operational test and evaluation (DT&E and OT&E) test programs. These systems consist of computer networks, system integration laboratories (SIL), and/or hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) facilities integrating digital and analog processors, cockpit displays and controls, mechanical and electrical interfaces, and operational flight program software. The software includes algorithms for navigation, ordnance targeting/delivery, flight controls, energy & propulsion management, communications, sensor imaging, and target locations and identification.
Other duties include:
- Plans, conducts, evaluates, analyzes, and resolves issues critical to ground testing of new conventional and unconventional aircraft avionics or armament systems/subsystems and testing in a simulation facility.
- Designs and fabricates simulation cockpits and cockpit interface subsystems for conventional aircraft and advanced manned vehicles.
- Plans and implements new ground test procedures, data acquisition and data reduction techniques, specifies data parameters to be recorded and formulates ground test data recording system for testing objective(s).
- Provides technical assistance to senior engineers and electronics technicians and contractor personnel in various phases of projects. Prepares maintenance routines and troubleshooting procedures for electronic systems, aircraft cockpit instruments, strip charts, X-Y plotters, power supplies, and other simulator equipment.
- Technically and logistically supports the operation and maintenance of high-end computer systems. Supports the acquisition, delivery, storage and issue of required systems and assets.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
- Para-professional knowledge of the concepts, principles, and techniques of electronics engineering, and the related knowledge of aeronautical and mechanical engineering concerned with avionics and flight simulation.
- Expert knowledge in the design and fabrication of: simulation cockpits, hardware interfaces, electrical layouts, electrical hardware, digital computers, and various data display electronic systems.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance for high-end computer equipment and networks.
- Knowledge of test function, test instrumentation, test design, coordination, and supervision, data evaluation, report preparation, facility, and administrative aspects of flight test programs.
- Knowledge and skill sufficient to plan, organize, direct, and conduct the maintenance, operations and checkout of unique simulators.
Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.
Volunteer Work Experience: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
