Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic

Duties

• Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots repairs, rebuilds, aligns, and calibrates electronic systems, components, or subassemblies. Systems are composed of a number of individual subsystems (i.e., radar, computers, gyro or inertia sensing units, launching control units, etc.) which are linked together and interrelated so that their combined functions accomplish a specific objective and comprise a complete integrated system.

• Performs pretest, operational (functional), or final testing of electronic systems, components, or subassemblies. Sets up and operates software controlled automated test equipment to run established programs in various test modes to test and troubleshoot integrated systems.

• Utilizes safety practices and procedures, complies with security regulations, directives, and policies, and maintains a safe and clean work area. Uses personal protective equipment and complies with all appropriate safety and health directives.

• Uses and maintains tools and test equipment required to accomplish duties. Ensures tools are properly marked, calibrated (if necessary), and are secured when the area is unattended. Reports any lost tools in accordance with applicable procedures.

• Prepares effective training plans to maximize Reserve training. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. As required, verifies and certifies work processes and procedures of certified coworkers and trainees and adequacy of work accomplished.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic Without More Than Normal Supervision

1. Knowledge of electronic theories and practices of one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control, inertial navigation, or automatic landing control systems; of integrated electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, optical, and mechanical systems; of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital display devices, and of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system; and of mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometric functions to adapt standard function to the specific requirements of the integrated systems.

2. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the electronics trade. Ability to interpret and comply with regulations and instructions on security, safety, documentation, and other publications governing the performance of duties. Ability to effectively communicate with workers and supervisors in English using both oral and written reports.

3. Skill in the setup and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions.

4. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. Basic computer skills are required. Individual must be able to access and use computer based maintenance documentation and supply systems, and be capable of assimilating training on new systems as they are developed and implemented.

5. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi component assemblies and devices.

6. Ability to use a variety of electronic, electrical, or electromechanical test and measurement equipment. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
