About the role

Duties

The primary responsibilities of the position are in the gas measurement and pipeline maintenance supporting helium operations and the gas measurement responsibilities required by contracts with private helium companies storing helium in Government facilities. The incumbent examines gas well and well control equipment at individual wells and/or pipeline flow data daily to determine if the measurement, pipelines, or meter runs are functioning properly, and reports abnormalities or makes the necessary repairs or adjustments. The incumbent is the Government inspector for witnessing tests and calibrations of gas measurement instruments at private industry helium plants delivering or taking redeliveries of crude helium. The incumbent operates and maintains equipment used along the pipeline right-of-way, and conducts general maintenance work and upkeep of the Maintenance Station.

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly and installation of all electronic and mechanical equipment. Ability to install and repair equipment in order to make necessary repairs and adjustments.
  • Use of test equipment electronics to calibrate and test in order to collect data samples to prepare reports.
  • Theory of electronics and a working knowledge of gas-measurement methods, flow-metering and analytical devices in order to provide accurate information on measurement of gas.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools and special locators and gauges; uses cathodic protection meters and devices in locating buried pipelines.
  • Trouble shooting electronic equipment to determine gas measurement and performing pipeline maintenance in order to provide technical advice.
  • Ability to suggest and apply new methods when observing measurement instruments in order to maintain flow to determine meters are functioning properly to make necessary repairs and reports abnormalities.
