Electrical Estimator Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our team to prepare accurate, competitive estimates for electrical work across municipal and infrastructure projects. The role focuses on bidding and pre-construction for wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), water lines, underground utilities, and medium/high voltage electrical systems. The successful candidate will convert plans and specifications into detailed quantity takeoffs and cost proposals, collaborate with project teams and subcontractors, and help secure profitable work while maintaining compliance with industry codes and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop thorough electrical estimates and bid packages for WWTP, water line, and underground utilities projects.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, and labor/material cost calculations for medium and high voltage electrical systems.
- Use Accubid (or equivalent estimating software) and digital takeoff tools to prepare and manage estimates and maintain estimating databases.
- Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate subcontractor and supplier quotations; maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure competitive pricing.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, field staff, and scheduling teams to align estimates with constructability, schedule, and budget constraints.
- Conduct site visits and pre-bid meetings to validate conditions, identify risks, and capture scope clarifications.
- Prepare bid summaries, assumptions, exclusions, and risk analyses; present recommendations to leadership for final bid decisions.
- Perform value engineering and alternatives analysis to improve competitiveness and margin without compromising quality or compliance.
- Ensure estimates comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements (NEC, OSHA, and local regulations).
- Maintain historical cost databases, track bid results, and continuously refine estimating processes and pricing models.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or related discipline; or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years of electrical estimating experience, with demonstrated focus on WWTP, wastewater/waterline, and underground utility projects.
- Proven experience estimating medium and high voltage electrical systems.
- Proficiency with Accubid or similar electrical estimating software and digital takeoff tools; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Solid understanding of electrical construction methods, equipment, labor productivity, material pricing, and installation practices.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills with the ability to produce accurate estimates under deadline pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare clear bid documents and present findings to stakeholders.
- Ability to perform site visits and travel to project locations as required; valid drivers license.
- Knowledge of NEC and relevant local codes, plus familiarity with municipal contracting and procurement processes is preferred.
- Certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Estimating certificates are a plus.
